[ONLINE] Travelling to Japan and Back

The Writing School is hosting a weekly online poetry writing course exploring Japanese cultural concepts and poetic forms, and how they can be used to enhance one's poetic practice.

Led by Alexandra Corrin-Tachibana, the course will look at a range of Japanese poets, ranging from early zuihitsu writers to twentieth century poets, such as Yoshida Kenko, Kamo no Chōmei and Tarō Naka and Minoru Yoshika. There will also be time spent focusing on a range of Japanese forms, from senryu to zuihitsu to renga. Participants are also encouraged to submit work to a group anthology at the end of the course.

The course will also look at work by non-Japanese poets inspired by Japan, such as Tobias Hill and Anthony Thwaite, and at Asian American writers exploiting Japanese forms, such as Eugenia Leigh and Kimiko Hahn.
